Explore Talent

Managing talent is a great way of individual and organizational success. It enables you to utilize the human resources available in a better way. To be able to use and direct talent in the appropriate direction, it is imperative to explore it first. Talent management thus becomes a systematic approach to explore and use talent for the benefit and interest of your organization as well as to enable an individual to polish and make the best of his skills.

To explore talent in your employees has become all the most important in the present times for the reason that the challenges that the organizations are facing today are much more complex than they were in the past. As they are encountering cutthroat competition from their competitors, exploring talent and using it in the right directions can provide a winning edge for a firm. Talent management has become such an integral part of the present day business that absence of the right strategies to explore and manage talent can prove to be seriously detrimental for an organization.

Gone are the times when a dedicated resource for a certain job was enough. Today, you need more diverse people who can take up multiple roles and contribute to the success of the business in a number of ways. To explore talent and to make use of your human resource in the best possible manner you need to develop the right strategies so that the process becomes easy and effective.

HRD is the formal department which needs to come up with the talent management plan and incorporate it on organizational level. The role of the HODs and supervisory staff is also essential when it comes to explore talent with the staffs. As individuals who work under them are their direct notice they can also see what additional skills or knowledge they possess which can be utilized other than their main responsibilities. Highly talented employees are certainly easy to recognize than those with average talent. Once the talent of an individual is identified, he can be trained on formal level so that the skill and knowledge he possesses can be put into the right direction for the success of your business.

To explore talent in your people means to save the cost of adding more manpower. If an employee can take up more than a single role, you can compensate him in the same pay plan rather than adding a new staff member altogether. Likewise, there are other benefits as for example, managing talent takes lesser time than to recruit and train fresh employees. Therefore, it is must for any organization to explore talent within its own staff before hunting for talent from outside.

Managing talent is integral to the success of any developing organization. If you fail to recognize and utilize talent, you will be losing your vital human assets. In simple words, managing talent is a process in which you identify and develop your manpower which in turn helps an organization to flourish. For this purpose, you need to be clear as to what talent is and how you can utilize it. Organizations where HR is active, it is their duty to identify and recognize talent. Other than the HR department, the immediate supervisor or manager can also help to recognize the talent within an employee. Once a particular talent is identified, one can be given relevant training in order to polish his skill.

Talent can be defined as a set of skills, experience, knowledge in addition to behavior of an employee. Since all these attributes vary from individual to individual, it is certainly a complex task to recognize and manage talent. You can also say that talent is the certain potential in an individual which can be polished and used for the individual as well as organizational benefit. Talented individuals can take up more complex tasks or broaden their role within the organization inline with certain potential that they have. For a talented individual there are high prospects of development and growth both within as well as outside a firm.

A talented employee can be promoted to higher levels of the organization. He or she can also be given additional tasks other than their main responsibilities and duties. This is for the reason that they are more talented than others and can manage multiple tasks in an effective way. Also, their role within the organization can be made more diverse. It will not only benefit the individual but also the organization as it will not have to hire additional human resource in order to do a particular job or task.

Generally, a highly talented employee has better leaderships compared to an individual with limited potential. He is able to learn and follow instructions quickly. Also, he displays proactive approach and comes up with solutions rather than waiting to be spoon fed. Likewise, he is a problem solver and contributes to the success of an organization in multiple ways. Such an individual is easier to recognize compared to someone who has little potential or talent. You should bear in mind that once the talent of such individual is recognized, it must be developed by the organization so that it can add to the good of the company.

I was looking at my bathtub for seven minutes. It had cracks and yellowish stains. I thought of calling some bathtub reglazing NJ crew. Then again, I got too lethargic and smoke some cigarettes instead. I still gave it a thought, though. Should I or should I not phone someone from a bathtub refinishing New Jersey company to fix my bathroom in PA.

I’ve been “inactive” almost all my life. My dad used to say I’m his awaken-with-comatose child. I just lie around everywhere I could see a soft-looking, serenity-inviting couch. I’ve never been that lively like any other normal people. All I ever wanted was for people to stop telling me to move around a little bit and just act like bathtubs in PA – motionless.

Well, those years are over now. From being a sluggish no good for nothing, my life was changed by an air-conditioning system.

You know those types that turn an irritating dry heat to an Antarctic temperature of eight degrees below zero? I bought one of those after a firm conviction of saving money from an unmoving, computer-related night shift job. If I had hired those guys from a bathtub refinishing NJ team, maybe I would’ve taken the bathtub and the air-con to my very unrestricted office.

Then again, a life-changing scenario happened to me two months ago. It was a Saturday. Saturdays meant goodbye to the very exciting boredom at the office and saying hello to my new found bliss in my air-con I just bought the day before Saturday. I planned to sleep for a non-stop 12 hours. I figured my air-con system would be jealous over the ones in my office. Then again, I got tired thinking of those metaphors.

You may think I could get a heart attack or stroke for oversleeping. Well, I’m normally fit. I go to gym every other day to jog, waste my energy in lifting weights, and naturally rip my abdominals. If there’s one thing I’m also proud of is my very fast metabolism. If I want to, I could lose 14 lbs in a week without pressure. Then again, because of the incredibly rapid metabolism, I eat all the food I want. Sure I could lose it after sometime but the heaviness of lamb chops inside my tummy weakens me to bed...everytime.

About the 12-hour sleep, the air-conditioning system blew winter winds for eight hours. After that, it blew flames. Overdone and overheated, my new appliance smelled like rotting styrofoams and melting plastics. I woke up with the smell of a burning ductile.
The fire extinguisher did the job done. It was funny that my planned bum-ness for Saturday could have killed my indolent, apathetic, and goof-off existence.

I quit my job and now work at an advertising company. Sure I feel lazy and procrastinating sometimes but at least it’s because of the tiredness I got from a busy day. That feels completely safe from fire. And I bought another air-con system that goes off after four hours. That’s safer, I hope.

It was high school-ish! My 35-year-old buddy nagged me about a woman she likes. I’m not Mr. Ladies’ Man but surely I know some. I’m old enough to know and young enough to explore. Dominique came to me asking his chances on women. He thinks I’m the see best psychic or prophet for the job. I thought he is one desperate bachelor.

When I was in college, I seldom talk to women. Afraid and lacking confidence, I had that fear of rejection. My weight was an issue and I had asteroid-impacted face due to pimples. One day, a classmate of mine from the paranormal realm granted me 1 free psychic question. I asked her about the moment I would marry a good-looking, normal and successful woman. She gave me seven years. I married an advertising supervisor 6 years and 11 months after that. My wife still gives me psychic medium readings today while she reads Vogue.

I would want to refer Dominique to my lovely wife but I figured giving him true psychic readings. Apparently, he likes a manager from another company. His frustration bites his pride. The woman lives up to her rank and Dominique is a supervisor. That’s the myth about us men that women and other men like my buddy believe in.

Men prefer smart girls for commitment and for good. My friend as a temporary exception, men love intelligent and focused women. It’s a challenged after all. That should not be mistaken for anything else. We need blondes with brains and ambitions and not fun-time girls unless we’re playing.

As I was in the process of past, present, future reading, my friend relinquished hegemony once again – women ONLY prefer attractive men. This is just pure stupid! We all dream of partners who look like those people shown by the media. Personally, I find Maria Sharapova very gorgeous. Anyway, women like good-looking men but not so preferred.

We should see the reality. A woman goes for a man who acts like one. Someone who is confident, principled, and got a pack of humor – jackpot! Men like my friend should take a second look at the bigger picture of things about attraction. Women may like Pitt and Timberlake but they will drool over the fact that one guy protects a woman’s pride, treats her like a princess, and cared for her in his own way.

After I told these things to my friend, he approached the manager the next morning. I was very proud and accomplished. I saw my friend confidently walking towards the woman of his dreams.

Dominique found out that the woman was her second cousin. Sucks to be him.

Being nocturnal entails a lot of damage and fun – in a weird way of course. Sadly, when the sun greets the human specie, I come crawling into my coffin with such animosity that I miss the day. Just last week, I forgot to say hello to my best friend who made me bathroom remodeling designs for bathroom additions at my place. The day after that, I forgot it was my mother’s birthday and I failed to bring the cake I ordered a month before.

Working on a night shift, I keep my hair on my back and always eager to start the job. This makes me willingly forget tomorrow’s prior appointment. So instead of feeling sorry and acting like a neglecting son of a gun, I formulated my new strategy to withdraw from my apathetic vampire mode. I don’t want to miss another money saving project for my kitchen in Contra Costa County. My patient best friend from a kitchen remodeling service has a thin resistance to waiting, anyway.

As I was waiting for my tile backsplash installation yesterday, I figured that coffee would be my savior. Make that a lot of coffee every thirty minutes. I think that would workout for someone like me who needs more than antioxidants in my system. I need a pumping hot or cold liquid that can drive the vibe for the morning to come.

Seeing my Marlboro, cigarettes would be good stimulants. I bet I’d be a walking chimney outside my office and get stuck with nicotine. I’d match that with the great sun’s power. I learned that our body’s clock sync with sunrise. Add Lil’ Wayne’s blood-boiling masterpieces like “Drop The World” featuring Eminem and I’m good to go.

I tried that today. I found out that the coffee every thirty minutes has some screwing effects. I can’t sleep now. I should’ve drunk in small ounces. Now I’m on the edge of knowing the brilliance of astral projection. I don’t feel my brain. I should’ve used it when I needed it. Now it’s evaporating in the air.

Well, at least music and sunrise work like charms. The cigarettes hurt my chest. That makes me stupid, I know. I can see my project coming to life with the help of my best friend who continually laughed at my current situation.

I’m awake. I’m not myself. I think I’ll think of other ways not to harm my neurons. Good luck to me.

Copyright (c) 2010 Refined Images, LLC

Being displaced from your job is an upsetting and even traumatic experience under any circumstances. Projecting a defeated or stressed outlook, however, is unlikely to attract your next position. In fact, it's likely to do the opposite.

You need to take some time to rebuild your professional image from the inside out. There are a multitude of things you can do to enhance both your personal outlook and the professional presence you convey to potential employers.

One way to continue to maintain a positive and professional state of mind is to commit to dressing each day as you would for a day on the job—as you would on a good day, like when dressing to meet a client. This is slightly less formal than job interview attire (i.e., trousers, jacket, and blouse for women -- shirt and tie for men). Appear as if you are coming from or going to an office. When you're out and about during the day (especially during lunch hours) you may run into former co-workers or other associates who may be in a position to help you network to find that next position. Dressing in sweats and t-shirts suggests you're on hiatus from your job search, or are not serious about re-entering the workforce. A successful person is busy, important, and mindful to always promote themselves—even on their personal time!

Further steps you can take to reinforce your professional image while in professional transition include being prepared to promote yourself at all times. Carry a business card that reads like a mini-resume with your key selling points/core competencies on one side. This networking business card should appear professionally done - even if created on your home computer. Make sure to use a heavy card stock, appropriate font and ink color, and check carefully to eliminate errors. This card is specifically for networking, and allows you and those with whom you network to represent you and your core competencies to your best advantage to potential employers. In addition to the networking business card, carry hard copies of your resume at all times. You never know when you'll be in position to present it to someone of influence. Promoting yourself as not only professionally attired, but prepared and serious about your transition to another, better position impresses potential employers and co-workers.

Ensure that your professional image is seamless. Every contact while networking should promote your personal brand. Dress to match your resume. Behave in a positive and professional manner. Hard copy and online resumes should be identical, and send a follow-up email message to anyone to whom you've given a paper resume. Attach the electronic version to your follow-up email thanking them for their interest in you. Don't forget your digital image as an extension of your total professional image. An auto-generated email signature in your email correspondence reinforces your brand and professional objectives. Use the opportunity to address the position you strive for with a title such as, "Project Manager" or "Administrative Professional" followed by "seeking challenging opportunity." Include a link to a social network profile (i.e., LinkedIn or Facebook), or your own personal website. Ensure the link you use is connected to your professional image and information. Market yourself with utmost professionalism at every opportunity.

To promote yourself in person, take that professional presence, tools, and positive energy and network with others as much as possible. According to CareerXRoad's 8th Annual Sources of Hire Survey (Feb 2009), referrals made up 27.3% of all external new hires. Professional networking events are an excellent environment to promote yourself, your skills, and your objectives. Whatever your course, project your best self visually and in attitude at every turn for optimum success!

Here is a little story that each of us can learn from. It's about a young boy and his dad who were out walking one day.

It was a beautiful day, but the ground was rocky and as the two climbed a steep hill the boy tripped and injured himself. He yelled out in pain. He was puzzled by his yelling resounding back to him. The boy, no longer concerned about his injury, was fascinated by this and called back, "Who are you?" He was rewarded by a bounce back of his question. The boy then began to send different messages to the mountain, some threatening, some admiring, just anything, to see what might happen. Whatever message he sent out to the mountain, the exact message bounced back.

The son was confused and asked his father what was going on. His dad explained that what he was hearing was in fact, an echo. "But," he warned, "it is much more than that. It is a little like life itself. The echo that you are hearing gives back to you, whatever message you send".

The boy was confused. The father then went on to explain the parallel. He told his son that if we want to create more love in the world we must allow more love in our hearts. If we want more compassion, then we must be compassionate. If we are part of a team and the team is less than competent, then it is up to us to take the initiative, to be in the driver's seat, and through appropriate attitude, promote more competence.

"Whatever you achieve in life," said his father "is a direct reflection of the kind of person you are. If you work to be the best person you can be, your life will be accordingly enriched. You see, your life is not a coincidence. Rather, it's a reflection of you, of your actions, of your attitude to the world."

So how does this simple analogy relate to you and me in our everyday living? Let's see. Have you ever got out of bed in the morning, in a bad mood, to find that everything that day went against you? It didn't matter what you did, either at home or work, everything appeared to be out of kilter.

You know, whether you like it or not, that was your choice! The reason for your bad attitude is unimportant, but choosing to have one is extremely important. Your mood set the pattern for the day. Because of it you found everything to complain about, the traffic congestion, the elevator at work not functioning, and the coffee being cold. The list could go on!

Now try to imagine that same day once more. Decide to embrace an absolutely positive, unshakable attitude for the rest of the day. Are you ready? Now, you get into your car for work and ten minutes into your journey you find that there has been an accident on the road and traffic is banked up. Consequently your journey to work has slowed down to a snail's pace. You refuse to be upset! It just means that now you have time to listen to the news on the radio, maybe stretch your vocal cords on one of your favourite songs, or think about a work-related problem that is waiting for you to deal with in the office.

Later, when you get to work, you have to climb the stairs because the elevator has mal-functioned. You reason to yourself that at least you're doing some exercise. Your heart-beat is elevated and you're using up energy. Eventually you make it up to the fifth level where your office is. By that time you have decided that you could really do this every day, given that you don't use a walking stick or need a wheel chair! You grab a well-earned coffee. It turns out to be lukewarm. "So what?" you think. "Some people can't afford a cup of coffee." So you just drink it and enjoy that fact that you can afford one. Life isn't too bad.

So you see, what started off as a potentially bad day, ended up being an exceptionally good one. You made not one, but a series of good choices to see the positives in so many of your situations, the choice to put up with things, the choice to smile and be in a good mood, the choice to see the other side of the equation, the choice to echo something good to the world at large. Bet your bottom dollar, when you demonstrated that positive attitude, everyone noticed. I'll bet too, that the people working with you were more productive that day. That's right! Your attitude would have had a profound effect on their attitude. That's a bit of a scary thought is it not?

So next time you feel that the world owes you something, next time you feel grumpy, why not stop and turn it around and ask what you owe the world? Be assured that your debt to the world will far outweigh anything the world owes you. And always be mindful that any messages that you send out on any day, will surely be echoed right back to you.

Decide to make each day a good one and see where life takes you.

Don't Fear Failure. It Comes Before Success!

Do you fear failure in establishing your online business? Is your fear so real that it makes you reticent to even try to make things work?

You know, when we first start out in an online business, the one thing that we fear most is the possibility of failure. Lodged deep in our psyche, is the knowledge that success is not going to happen overnight, and lodged even deeper is our worry that things simply won't work out at all.

But think about it. The reality is that most of us will fail to some extent, before we are at all close to success. If we can accept that, if we can accept failing many times, the reality is that there is a much greater chance that we will eventually succeed. Sounds a little crazy, doesn't it? Let me explain.

There is something a little daunting about the possibility of failure, because you and I know that out there in our social or business world, there are so many people just waiting for us to do so. If you cave in to failure they can then say, I told you so. You shouldn't have gone there in the first place. Everybody I know who has tried this has failed. And it's for all those reasons that failure is so ugly, so demeaning, and so capable of reducing us to a screaming heap.

But stop and think about it. What if we were to twist that thinking around and try to see all our failures as successes? How could that change things?

As you know, the New Year will be here in a few days and with it will come a myriad of resolutions for change. It's something we all do each and every year. Might I suggest to you then, that short of coming up with an array of sure-fire ways to succeed, why not instead, determine a failure plan? Just imagine if you could plan to fail many times over and still remain positive.

To do this, just think about the different ways in which you will advertise your business -perhaps online advertising, some banner ads, flyers at a particular shopping mall, warm marketing, e-mail marketing - you get the picture. Accept that you are going to fail many times over, and determine that you will always celebrate those failures. Highlight every failure, every week, and then celebrate each and every one of them. This will sound like madness to some people, but you know, whether you believe it or not, the fastest way to become successful, is through accepting your failures. Realise that there is no one business in the world that does not experience failure at some time or other. Perfection is non-existent in the business world. So now, if you can accept failure, if you can celebrate its existence, then success will follow.

What you need to understand in all of this is that the percentage of failure in direct marketing companies is staggeringly high, but not because it doesn't work, because it absolutely does! Rather it's due to the fact that people give up when they have tried something once and it hasn't worked for them. They're not prepared to try again, or to alter the angle of their advertising, or to change their method of doing things. Often they give up when success is just on the horizon. Isn't that scary!

However, the smaller conversion percentage that works is that very percentage that you should be concentrating on. This is the one that can earn you a mind-blowing income, one that is truly worth celebrating.

So my advice to you is to take the bull by the horns, decide on your tactics of operation, and stop worrying about whether things are going to work or not. Ignore the naysayers. See the glitches along the way as part of the success road you are travelling on. Plan to celebrate your failures and soon those small diamonds of success will show up on your doorstep. Go on then! I challenge you. Plan to accept your failures and go on to enjoy your successes.
